Chelsea 2-1 Manchester United
English Premier League
26/4/08
1.00pm
Stamford Bridge, London
Intro: Some of u may not know why this match was so important. Ok, maybe not important, but crucial. Err.. it was important. A win for Chelsea would have meant that they would be tied on points at the top of the table with Manutd. Which would have made e remaining 2 matches of e league so damn exciting, since e race would still be on. A win for Manutd would have given them a 6 point lead, which meant they would have been very unlikely to lose, since they have a superior goal difference. oh but yes, lets not be too sure. Chelsea might just have scored 19 goals in their last 2 matches. So, a win for Manutd wouldn't have confirmed e title, but helped it so much. Chelsea won, by e way..
Tactics: Chelsea started with a 4-5-1. Not much of a surprise, although i thought they might have changed their formation to a 4-4-2 to try and win e match. Manutd started with a 4-5-1. Not much of a surprise, since i thought they would change from a 4-4-2 to a 4-5-1 and go for a draw. So, I thought both teams would change their formations. One did, e other won. Hmm?
My Man of the Match: Anderson (Manutd). Was in midfield, after being left out of e previous match. And most Manutd fans may now be thinking that he shouldn't be have left out of tt match. Did a good job, holding onto e ball whenever he got it, although we was being watched by John Obi Mikel who i think is one of e best defensive midfielders in e EPL. Take 2 incidents, both in e 1st half for example. 1st incident, Anderson picked up e ball out left, quickly closed down by Michael Essien and Joe Cole, but wriggled past both of them before he was fouled. 2nd incident, picked up e ball in e middle, quickly closed down by Mikel and Essien, used his shoulders to push himself up, before being fouled. in other words, he couldnt be stopped without being ganged up on.
“What the..?”: Happened in e 73rd minute. Chelsea get a direct free kick about 2m away from e Manutd penalty box, which means they have a great chance to get a 2nd goal. The ball is lined up, but look! Didier Drogba (captain of Ivory Coast, playing for Chelsea) and Michael Ballack (captain of Germany, playing for Chelsea) start arguing and even pushing each other! Why, u may ask.. since they're both playing for Chelsea and a 2nd goal would ean a win which would mean Chelsea being in e EPL title with a good chance still. But ohh yes, its tt same problem at Chelsea again. players' egos. I was quite shocked. U can ask Shoban to show u e sms i sent him following this incident.. I don't think I should reveal it on this blog. Haha.
Commentator’s memorable quotes: John Motson was commentating. U may recognise this name if u played e FIFA games before 2006. Remember "and we welcome u to this match.. u're with John Motson and Andy Gray"? haha.. Got a few quotes too. "Chelsea and Manutd, south and north, blue and red. A day of contrasts, of emotions, possibly of decisions", "Germany captain against e most capped player in Holland's football, in e EPL title race". - Motson. Oh and i think i'll jus quote Shoban too. He told me this in an sms and i went "what e.. shoban?". "Lol. did u see tt guy slip. Tamils believe if slip, bad omen. Chelsea lose today" - Shoban.
Implications/Expectations: 2 matches left and theyr are tied at e top. So, e next 2 matches will be exciting, both teams hungry for e title. wohoo! and both these teams have a champions' league semi-final this week. So they will surely be hungry. Like VJC was, haha.
See u all in school.
