The Pencil Parable

omg i sooo wanted to share this devotion during wow, but somehow got cancelled..
anw 5.11ers, PLS READ this ok? esp if u r a new student in ACS(I) cuz well, we ACS boys hav kinda heard this b4... so guys, yea u can skip this, tho i still strongly suggest u read this n reflect on it.. its my favourite devotion EVER in my life.. also i hav posted my other devotion that i shared during wow, for Charvi's sakes.. haha k enjoy..

The Pencil Parable
The Pencil Maker took the pencil aside, just before putting him into the box.
"There are 5 things you need to know," he told the pencil, "Before I send you out into the world. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best pencil you can be."

"One: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in someone's hand."

"Two: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but you'll need it to become a better pencil."

"Three: You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make." (using the eraser at the top of it)

"Four: The most important part of you will always be what's inside, and not the outside."

"And Five: On every surface you are used on, you must leave your mark. No matter what the condition, you must continue to write."

The pencil understood and promised to remember, and went into the box with purpose in its heart.

Now replacing the place of the pencil with you. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best person you can be.

One: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in God's hand. And allow other human beings to access you for the many gifts you possess, be it working with your leaders or just following others.

Two: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, going through various problems in life, but you'll need it to become a stronger person.

Three: You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make.

Four: The most important part of you will always be what's on the inside, in your heart, of character in your soul, and not what you are on the outside.

And Five: On every surface you walk through, you must leave your mark. No matter what the situation, you must continue to do your duties.

Allow this parable on the pencil to encourage you to know that you are a special person and only you can fulfill the purpose to which God has tasked you to accomplish.Never allow yourself to get discouraged and think that your life is insignificant and cannot make a change.

Sow into the lives of people
Once there was a king who decided to set aside a special day to honor his greatest subject. When the big day arrived, a large gathering took place in the palace courtyard and four finalists were brought forward.

The first person was a wealthy philanthropist. This man was deserving of the king’s honor because of his great humanitarian efforts. He had given much of his wealth to the poor, building orphanages, schools and hospitals throughout the land.

The second was a celebrated physician. This outstanding doctor was deserving of honor for rendering his faithful and dedicated service to the sick for many years and discovering medicines that saved many lives.

The third was a distinguished judge. He was noted for his wisdom, his fairness and his many a brilliant decision.

The last person presented before the king was an elderly woman. Her manner was quite humble, as was her dress. She hardly looked the part of someone who would be honored as the greatest subject in the kingdom. What chance could she possibly have, when compared to the other three, who had accomplished so very much?

The king was intrigued, to say the least and was somewhat puzzled by her presence. He asked who she was. Then the answer came: “Well, my king, do you see the philanthropist, the doctor, and the judge over here? She was their teacher!”

This woman had no wealth, no fortune, and no title, but countless lives were helped, healed and changed through her giving.

We never know whose lives we’re touching. I’m sure someone prayed — someone gave — someone shared the Gospel with some of the greatest evangelists, preachers and givers we know. So really, you won’t know which kid’s life you are touching as you go about interacting with the people here.

Let’s serve the Lord by sowing unselfishly into the lives of the people he’s put in our path — so that they may become great in God’s Kingdom! There’s so much work to be done!

Mark 9:34-35 But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest. And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.

Rise and Fall

Sometimes in life you feel the fight is over
And it seems as though the writing's on the wall
Superstar you finally made it,
But once your picture becomes tainted,
It's what they call,
The rise and fall
(Craig David- Rise And Fall)

rise and fall ppl.. today's measure by strength is not by how much weights u can do in the gym, nor how tough u r in enduring the pains of a marathon run, but by how u pick urself up wen u fall..

let me share with u this (somewat) famous devotion..

One day this girl had a dream
She was walking along the beach with the Lord
and across the skies flashed scenes from her life.
in each scene there were two sets of footprints in the sand.
one was hers, and the other was the Lord's.
when the last scence of her life appeared before her,
she looked back at the footprints in the sand,
and to her surprise,
there were MANY times along the path of her life
where there were only ONE set of footprints.
And she noticed that its was at the lowest and saddest times in her life!!

so she asked the Lord,
"Lord, You said that once i decided to follow you, obey you, serve you,
that you would walk with me all the way.
but i noticed that during the most TROUBLED times in my life,
there is only ONE set of footprints!!
i don't understand WHY You left my side when i needed You most, O God..."

The Lord said,
"My precious child, I NEVER left you during your times of trouble.
Where you see only one set of footprints,
I was carrying you"

this is dedicated to some of my most precious friends, hoping that you may find Joy in the Lord in times when you feel down.

in closing i'd like to leave you with this verse
1 John 2:15-17
Do not love the world or anyhting in the world. If anyone loves the world the love of the Father is not in him.
For everything in the world-the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does- comes not from the Father but from the world.
The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever"

To summarise,
1) Be strong- no matter how hard the fall, pick yourself up..
2) If you can't find the strenght to do so, remember that the Lord is always with you..
3) Hang on to His love then, and remember not to fall into the trap of loving this world and those in it, cuz His love is all you need and it lasts for eternity..

MiM 10: ACS (Independent) vs Catholic JC

Match in Mind 10, by Shadiq A-H. Free of Charge.
ACSI 2 - 1 CJC
A Div Boys Football Tournament
8/5/08
4.30pm
NJC, Singapore
..
Intro: I didn't choose to watch this one, simply had to, cos I was playing in it. And some of u may know that I'm having 4 (yes, 4.) matches this week.. but i decided to do a MiM now anyway, for 2 reasons: 1. I don't feeling like doing chem, 2. there's been no activity on this blog for so long, even after e class had 2 birthdays since e previous post. So, back to e match.. this was e last match in the tournament for both these teams. CJC had to live up to their tag of being e 3rd best team in e group, after MJC and VJC (i love MJC, man..). ACSI had some pride to defend, after dropping many points unluckily in their 1st A Div tournament ever. And please please don't think that i'm doing a MiM just cos we won. No such thing, I would MiM any of our matches if not for my tiredness. I am quite very very tired now, but for those 2 reasons above, MiM lah. Oh and I played in this match along with other 5.11 people, Javier Lim and Pham Quang Minh.
Tactics: ACSI started with their normal formation, with Javier Lim on his newly-found RM position, Minh in his normal CF position and their no. 8 in his favourite DM position. Didn't really pay attention to what formation CJC played, but they preferred attacking through e centre, a preference that seems to suit them.
My Man of the Match: Javier Lim (ACSI). he scored e 2nd goal and had a part in e 1st. honestly, looked abit off when defending, but his goal helped. i was actually worried for him in e morning, after he came over to me and said he didn't feel like playing cos he was emo. but, that goal surely erased that. well it would have cured e emo if i were him, anyway. haha don't know about him though. on e lighter side, he didn't get kicked in this match, which has happened some times already, always followed by a scream from him haha. Javier, i told u, football cures everything. haha nice goal bud, although it was a rebound, tt was good anticipation. wohoo!
"What the..?": A few incidents can be put here, but i chose this one. ACSI players doing exactly what e CJC supporters tried. haha. 1st, a CJC player picks up e ball on e left side and their supporters start screaming "go! burn him burn him!", where "him" is shoban. but instead, shoban gets e ball back and burns that same player down tt same side. haha. 2nd, their supporters start doing one of their cheers, and it goes on for about 2 minutes. at e same time, e tiempo of e match is slowed down. ACSI's no. 8 doesn't want that, and he becomes irritated (slightly) by e cheer, and shout at e top of his voice, "ah come on AC!!!", and then, e whole place became quiet. haha.
Commentator's memorable quotes: No commentator for this match, but i did pick out some quotes from e players. "eh Javier! why u there?" - Lee Ren Xiang, "wah, damn emo lah. i think i can't play" - Javier Lim, "I want to play outfield today, i don't care" - Esmond Loke, "Huh? oh u ask why i wearing this? okay okay i go change to my keeper shirt now!" - Esmond Loke (haha nice try lah buddy), "wah i like NJC" - Gareth Nah (i wonder why..), "eh Luke stop looking through my phone!" - Shoban, "ah come on AC!" - our no. 8, "Cannot be what" - ACSI A Div Football team. haha..
Implications/Expectations: No implications, cos both teams were out of e A Div tournament, but I want to use this space to tell my teammates sth. Guys, i think we did have some reasonable team spirit. not e whole team was always present, sadly, but there were a good number of u guys who showed spirit. As coach said, next year we will try more and harder. And this year we should have finished higher than we did, remember.. cos we lost 8 points very very unluckily. So guys, thanks for at least working hard for it, and we'll do better next year. haha that line is becoming too normal at Liverpool.
And now, I'm going to get some good rest before tmr's very very very important match. After i read some football news, i'm going to sleep. see u all in sch tmr.

I know I said..

Hello classmates and whoever else reads this blog,
now i know i said i will only post MiMs, but i've got some explaining to do. so, right here. on a post.
1. sorry all who care, no MiM this weekend. i'm just too tired. hockey trang on saturday morning, slept through e whole of saturday afternoon, woke up, read newspapers, and watched EPL after that, and slept. so, really sorry, no MiM this weekend.
2. shoban u wanted a MiM on e A Div match we played on friday. was thinking about it, until i reached home and jus slacked. sorry man. haha. hope ur hand is fine. cos if ur hand isn't fine, people in centre midfield will be worried. btw in this case, centre midfield includes our defensive midfielder too. haha centre midfield.
3. my fault. forgot to ask johnny to take photos of e A Div match tt day. then when u people came at half time, i didn't even notice. haha was just looking at coach's whiteboard. gah. if i hadn't forgotten to tell u, and if u had taken photos, redsports would've had an article on A Div Boys Football, other than those featuring those Victorian guys.
4. Aravind, congrats on making A Div Softball final man.
5. Carren Thung, i never go out to injure people haha. and surely i don't play like a.. 'rugger'.
6. Audrie Goh, i do not play dirty. it was just testosterone. haha. it was that guy's foul, anyway.
8. Javier Lim, don't stress lah. no reason to stress.
9. Rafa Benitez, don't sell Peter Crouch...

See u all in sch tmr.
